Trusted Advisors on Communications and Marketing Leadership
Focusing exclusively on these professions gives us valuable insights into the talent landscape and future trends.
Since launching our company in 1989, we have built a reputation as trusted advisors by immersing ourselves in corporate communications and public affairs. Over the years, as the lines between functions have blurred, we have extended our expertise into the marketing field.
After nearly 30 years building deep relationships with the best companies and the brightest candidates, we know the market. We know the people. We know what it takes to succeed in corporate communications, public relations, media relations, public affairs, social media, crisis communications, executive communications, investor relations, internal communications, corporate marketing, digital marketing, marketing communications, branding, and the full range of specialties across the communications and marketing spectrum.
Through our work with The Plank Center for Leadership in Public Relations and various industry groups, we share what we have learned for the benefit of everyone who cares about how their organizations connect with the broader world – from top leaders to those who are still fairly early in their communications and marketing careers. With our global colleagues – Taylor Bennett in the United Kingdom, joint venture Taylor Bennett Heyman in Asia and GK Personalberatung in Germany – we serve our clients wherever they need outstanding communications, public affairs and marketing talent.

At the Forefront of the Profession Since 1989
Long-term, strategic thinking is at the heart of what we do, and it is the reason our clients return to us over the years.
Heyman Associates provides retained search services to companies, academic institutions, major nonprofits and associations that value the communications, public affairs and marketing functions and demand a tailored fit when filling top roles in those areas.
Nearly 30 years ago, we opened our headquarters in New York City. Since that time, we have established a West Coast office in San Francisco and forged a close relationship with Taylor Bennett in the U.K., including our joint venture – Taylor Bennett Heyman – with offices in Hong Kong and Singapore, and with GK Personalberatung in Germany. Together, we offer clients global reach and an international perspective on hiring trends in communications, public affairs and marketing.
What sets us apart is the depth of our relationships, which we measure in years or even decades: many of our clients were once candidates we championed and advised as they were building their own careers. We are always happy to meet talented professionals, even if they are fairly early in their careers or not actively seeking a new opportunity. Perhaps we will work together next year, or five years from now, or ten.
We are proud to have earned the trust of leaders at the top of their professions at world-class organizations, and we work every day to maintain our reputation as reliable, ethical advisors to them.
Our Values Drive Successful Search Outcomes for Our Clients
Expertise, ethics, generosity: we do things the right way, and it makes a difference.
We have forged long-term relationships with clients and candidates, and every day we meet new and up-and-coming professionals poised to rise to high-profile leadership roles. This goes to show that we offer a valuable service and achieve successful outcomes. However, we think it says even more about the values that motivate us. We have set high standards for ourselves and strive to live up to them every day. Our clients know they can trust us to do business the right way.
Depth of knowledge: Our focus is on communications, public affairs and marketing. We work tirelessly to keep current on hiring trends, personnel moves and broader business developments affecting senior professionals in these areas.
Seeking win-win outcomes: The community of professionals at the upper echelons of the world’s most prominent organizations is a much smaller world than it might seem. We want our efforts to lead to positive outcomes for everyone. This means ensuring that we connect clients with candidates who will be productive employees over the long term. However, it also means supporting candidates at all levels of the profession and helping them to make good decisions that serve their own career goals.
Integrity: Forging deep, genuine personal relationships is at the heart of what we do. Decency. Honesty. Reliability. Ethics. These aren’t just words to us; they are the foundation of everything we do. We treat candidates with respect whether they are the right fit for a particular job opportunity or not.
Discretion: Personnel decisions are sensitive matters for clients and candidates alike. Both depend on us to maintain confidentiality, and we take that responsibility seriously.
Diversity: We are committed to helping our clients build teams that reflect the broader society. In addition to presenting slates of candidates from a diverse range of backgrounds, we support industry-wide initiatives to address the lack of diversity in communications and marketing.
Giving back: Every week, we have conversations with hundreds of senior professionals with communications, public affairs and marketing backgrounds. We know the challenges they face and the issues they care about. That puts us in a unique position to comment on trends in the profession, and we feel it is our responsibility to do so. That is why Heyman Associates actively supports the work of organizations like The Plank Center for Leadership in Public Relations at the University of Alabama and the Institute for Public Relations.
